A router UPS sample should be checked with the exact router and fibre terminal that the customer uses. A long runtime claim is not enough if the connection drops during transfer or the unit cannot recharge before the next outage. This guide turns those separate requirements into a purchase brief.
Record the two loads separately
Photograph both power labels and record model, voltage, connector and the manufacturer's power requirements. List which cables are included with the proposed UPS. Ask the supplier to confirm the intended output for each device; do not treat matching plugs as proof of compatibility.
Also ask the internet provider about service availability during outages. A powered router and terminal cannot guarantee that the rest of the connection remains available.
Agree what counts as a successful transfer
“Works during a power cut” can mean different things. Specify whether the devices must remain connected without restarting, or whether a short restart is acceptable. Ask a capable tester to observe the intended setup as mains power is removed and restored, following the equipment instructions.
Record the devices, cables, operating state, interruption and recovery. A successful light-on check does not show whether an active call or network session continued. Decide which behaviour matters for the customer's use before accepting the sample.
Verify runtime and recharge together
Ask for a test with both devices connected, starting from a stated battery condition. Record actual elapsed time, the reason the test ended and the conditions. If the specification uses mAh, request the voltage and usable output-energy information needed for a meaningful comparison.
Then agree a recharge check with the normal load still connected, if that is the intended use. A long standalone runtime does not establish that the unit can recover within the customer's available electricity window. Avoid publishing a fixed number of hours for every router model.
Decide what the supplier must confirm
- Exact UPS model and revision, battery details and supplied cables.
- Supported devices and outputs, backed by model-specific information.
- Transfer, runtime and charging test conditions and results.
- Battery replacement arrangements and written after-sales handling.
- Required documents and transport eligibility for the actual shipment.
